FlipSide guide 12/19/13: Christmas events and concerts; Winter Solstice party; Santa sightings

It’s the last weekend before Christmas:
– Take a guided tour of the Victorian Christmas trimmings and customs today through Sunday at Fort Hunter Mansion, 5300 N. Front St., Harrisburg. [$3 to $5]
– Do some last-minute shopping at Bloom Art Market 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at along West Philadelphia Street and North Beaver Street in York. Free refreshments will be provided, and artists will offer door prizes.
– Dream about a “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby and the gang 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York. This week, the Capitol’s longtime projectionist left. [$7]
– Pose with Santa 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Central Market, 34 W. Philadelphia St., York. Kids can bring their wish lists and decorate gingerbread houses 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or while supplies last at YorKitchen.
The Sweet Lights Excursion will take you through nearly 600 illuminated, animated displays and back again on the trolley 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The trolley departs from the main lobby of Hershey’s Chocolate World, 251 Park Blvd., Hershey. [$7.95]
– Attend a Cookie and Wine Pairing 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Adams County Winery, 251 Peach Tree Road, Ortanna. Enjoy 3 wine samples and 3 cookies. [$10]
– More Santa Sightings and holiday events.

On stage:
– See “Fiddler on the Roof” 7:30 tonight, 8 p.m. Friday and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ephrata Performing Arts Center, 320 Cocalico St., Ephrata. [$15, $23.50, $25.50 and $27.50]
– York saxophonist Tim Warfield’s Jazzy Christmas concert is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York. [$20, $31, $35]
– Also at the Strand: Wynonna Judd & The Big Noise present “A Simpler Christmas” 7:30 p.m. Sunday. [$43, $48, $52]
– Hear music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” 9 p.m. Saturday at Holy Hound Taproom, 57 W. Market St., York.
– Toys come alive at 1 and 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday during Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet’s production of “George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker” at Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey. [$31, $41 and $49]

The Winter Solstice is Saturday:
– Party the shortest day away during the Solstice Shakedown Party 8 p.m. Saturday at Appalachian Brewing Co., 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. Splintered Sunlight will perform. [$10 to $12]
Weavings, Ink., 208 Hellam St., Wrightsville, will host a Winter Solstice Party 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

Emerging talent:
– Music students young and old will perform 5 p.m. Saturday during the Belle Musique Christmas Benefit Concert at Eichelberger Performing Arts Center, 195 Stock St., Hanover. [$10; benefits Meghan Lynn Rippeon Memorial Scholarship Fund Foundation]
– Hear rising stars of the jazz world during The Next Generation Concert 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. [$15 for general admission; $5 with student ID]
